GEM格林美

GEM (格林美 gēlínměi) is China’s top five listed companies in environmental protection and a world-leading waste recycling enterprise. It recycles waste batteries, waste electronics, and scrapped cars. GEM has established 16 waste recycling and new energy material parks in 11 provinces, covering 3000 kilometres and establishing cooperative relationships with nearly 500 million Chinese citizens in waste recycling.

Each year, the company disposes of more than 5 million tons of waste and recycles more than 30 kinds of scarce resources, such as cobalt, nickel, copper, tungsten, gold, silver, rare earth, along with ultrafine powder materials, power battery materials for new energy vehicles, and many other high-tech products. In China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), GEM has been tasked to lead and develop green supply chain partnerships to achieve carbon neutrality.

Outside China, GEM has a business presence in South Africa, South Korea, and Indonesia. In 2018, GEM signed a five-year agreement with South Korean battery maker ECOPRO Co., Ltd., to supply 170,000 tonnes of raw materials. In the same year, GEM had planned an Indonesian nickel project with stainless and nickel maker Tsingshan Group, a unit of Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd., (CATL), Japanese trading house Hanwa Co., Ltd., and PT. Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP).
